John and Meriel Thorpe farm Grainbrow at Hethersgill. The farm comprises of 12 hectares of grassland (full organic status since April 2001) which is also in the Countryside Stewardship Scheme.
We supply organic eggs from our flock of Light Sussex and Black Rock Hens (goose and duck eggs are also available in season) and organic table birds. A small flock of Scottish Blackface ewes gives fat lambs and stores. We also keep rare breed Large Black pigs for pork, bacon and sausages.
In 2004/2005 we intend to introduce rare and traditional breeds of sheep and cattle, in addition to developing organic vegetable and soft fruit production.
