Why buy organic?

Organic farms have the highest animal welfare standards

In organic production animal welfare is paramount. This means that our animals have plenty of space, eat a natural diet and are not routinely given antibiotics or medicines. This doesn't mean they go without - if an animal needs treatment it gets it - but they are carefully managed to build up their own resistance and to minimise the level of disease on the farm.

Organic producers don't use pesticides or herbicides

Our crops are selected to be both delicious and robust. We encourage natural insect predators to help us control pests and weeding is done by hand or with a mechanical mower, not with chemicals. Fertilisation is built into the soil using careful rotation of crops and nitrogen-fixing plants such as clover. By buyng organic you can be sure that your food is chemical-free and safe to eat, straight from the fields!

Organic farms are good for wildlife

Our farming methods don't pollute the soil and waterways, which is great for wildlife. We try to work with nature and many of us are part of Stewardship Schemes that commit us to managing the land in a way that increases biodiversity.

Organic produce is more sustainable

As we don't rely on large amounts of oil-dependent fertiliser, chemicals and machinery, our produce has a smaller carbon footprint. Additionally, our farming methods don't deplete the soil of it's natural fertility and biodiversity and so are more sustainable.

Organic farms are GM-free

Organic certified products are guarateed to be free from genetically modified organisms, right back to the supplementary cereals that are bought in to feed animals through the winter.
